Hi everybody! I just wanted to introduce myself to my fellow Women in Worship Leadership.

I’m the Director of Academic Development at Visible School – Music and Worship Arts College in Memphis, TN, and I’ve been a worship leader for a little under 20 years. I was raised not thinking too much about gender or about its limitations in ministry and the church.

It wasn’t until around 2001 that I learned that women are sometimes disqualified from leadership and ministry because of gender. Some of the verses used to defend this disqualification just bewildered me, and I knew that I was going to either have to get to the bottom of them or do what they say and quit leading and teaching.

I studied everything I could get my hands on for about a year and a half, and what can I say? God is gracious. I am still leading and teaching–and being taught!–more than ever. I’m looking forward to getting to know everybody, and if I can help with anything at all, I am so very willing to do so.

    Talk to you soon!

    • What a heart you have Shannon! Thanks for making yourself available. I think we are of the same group of artists whom the Lord called to join Him in this kingdom work of His – I belong to late 80s (1989). That’s when I started. New to the church from a non-evangelical one, I got involve in the worship ministry and year after that I headed the team. Our worship ministry was alive, vibrant and warm. Like you, I studied as much as I can to understand what this is all about. But maybe unlike you, I couldn’t get that much considering many factors belonging to third world country such as ours, not to mention indifferences of views from pastors and other leaders. Albeit, I learned from my personal studies. PTL!!!

Sometime 2006, felt depleted spiritually, my family decided to try another church. On discipleship trainings, this new church is rich. The hitch – women leaders not allowed. Well, they can with fellow women and children. I am not hindered to lead and teach though outside the church; of which I continue to do.

Someday, I’ll find where the Lord places me after all I’ve been through. I found you in Visible School. Hope to be in contact with you there too.

      Thank you!:)

      • Betsy, so nice to meet you! Where are you from? I travel a bit and I’m just wondering if I’ve been to your country.

Are you still with the church where you went in 2006? Do they disciple women for teaching the women and children? I am glad you are not hindered in teaching and leading outside the church. I pray that God will give you even more abundant revelations of himself for you to give away!

I look forward to talking with you more. Hope to hear from you soon!

        • Hi Shannon. I am from the southern part of the Philippine islands (Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao).
Yes, I am still with the same church. There are lots of discipleship trainings offered but specifically for women teaching women and children – there were seminars we attended.
I did organized an interdenominational Christian artists’ group and we call it The Levites’ Nook. Lots to share in here. I am highly expectant and anticipating much of what God will do through this group. Can you please include us in your prayers?

Thank you so much for your interest. I am glad. God bless you always.
